Grooming Your Pomchi

When you hear the term Designer Dog you would think that they would require a lot of care to keep it`s "Designer Look" actually , not really! I find our Pomchi is very low maintenance.
You would be surprised at just how little care they require as far as grooming. If you have a long haired Chipom ideally they should be brushed about twice a week. For a short haired, brushing just once a week should be sufficient. They are not very big so there's not a lot of area to brush thus it doesn't take too long. Miley takes about 15 minutes to brush and she quite enjoys it. I also don't go crazy bathing her too often either (about once a month), as she tends to keep herself pretty clean. She doesn't really like getting wet or walking in the mud so she doesn't get all that dirty. Pomeranians can also be prone to issues with dry skin so bathing them too often isn't a good idea. Be sure to use a dog shampoo for dry skin. I use an oatmeal base shampoo for dry skin (just in case) and she has never had any dry skin or itching problems. Our Pomchi goes to the groomer about every three months to get her nails clipped the fur on her paws trimmed back and around her anus shaved (for cleanliness) - that is really all the grooming they require.

What to Wear?

Pomchi's are the perfect dog to dress up! With so many options available now they can make quite the fashion statement. I would suggest that if you want to clothe your dog that you start when they're puppies, especially for short haired , they would probably appreciate it! My favorites are the funny t-shirts you can get. I was at the pet store just yesterday and saw some good ones. I picked up a cute one for our Jack Russell "Google Me". I haven't been too concerned with Miley getting cold because she has a pretty thick coat, however she hates to go out in the rain and doesn't like stepping in mud or rain. In the bad weather she doesn't stay outside long.

As the Pomchi is quite small I would also suggest that you buy them a harness versus a collar. Although Chipoms are fairly sturdy, as with any small dog, a harness is better to reduce the chance of causing irreparable damage or stress on their necks while you're walking with them. You don't have to give up fashion for function either as you can find harnesses in all colors, patterns, studded with rhinestones, spikes, or just about anything.
